Women 'prefer younger men'

Posted on: June 14, 2013 11:44:06

Women With a significant rise in the number of people using online dating in recent years, the way both single men and women form relationships has been revolutionised.

And it seems the increasing popularity of such websites has brought about a rise in certain behaviours that may not have been measured without the use of technology.

For example, it seems dating websites have allowed older women to unleash their inner cougar - with more females than ever before opting to strike up chats with hunky young men online.

An article published in Time magazine said that although traditional opinion suggests females like going out with someone older and more responsible, it seems the opposite is taking place in the world of internet relationships.

Data acquired from several dating websites in the US revealed that women are now around five times more likely to show an interest in a bloke who is five years her junior. However, the majority of guys would not even consider going out with a woman who was older.

The findings go against suggestions from recent studies that argue females are increasingly willing to date men who are much older, since findings revealed celebrities including Sean Connery, Michael Douglas, George Clooney and Denzel Washington were the most popular.

Yet analysts have argued that since women are likely to be inundated with requests from older guys through online dating, there is no longer the same appeal as there used to be.

The findings from a study published in the Psychology of Women Quarterly journal in 2008 echoed this sentiment.

Author Justin Lehmiller said: "We don’t know for sure, but it may be because when the woman is older, it shifts the traditional heterosexual power dynamic toward greater equality. We know from a lot of research that greater equality tends to make couples happier."ADNFCR-2828-ID-801599099-ADNFCR
