Women 'lie about their sexual past'

Posted on: May 13, 2013 16:10:22

Women Most singles like to present themselves as an ideal suitor when they first start a relationship with a new partner, but it seems some are prepared to go to greater lengths than others to keep their past under wraps.

Whether meeting via online dating or striking up a relationship in real life, ladies tend to be more secretive when it comes to opening up about their previous sexual encounters than their male counterparts.

According to a study carried out by My Celebrity Fashion, 52 per cent of women have lied to their current beau about how many people they have slept with.

Researchers found that females are not as honest as they would want their partners to believe, with fibs regarding previous erotic adventures being the most common lie ladies tell when in a relationship.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the second biggest untruth also revolves around past experiences, with 38 per cent of females admitting they have stretched the truth when explaining why they split up with their ex-boyfriend.

However, although nearly eight in ten women admitted to lying in a relationship, two thirds said they believe being deceitful could cause more arguments in the long run.

Despite this, a significant number of women said they told a lie because they felt it would make their partner like them more - but participants were rather shirty when asked how they would react if the tables were turned.

More than 50 per cent of respondents said they would be angry if they discovered a partner had failed to tell the truth, while others admitted the fib would hurt their feelings.

Bobbie Malpass, editor of My Celebrity Fashion, said: "I am so surprised that the most common thing women lie about is the number of previous partners they’ve had.

“You hear all the time that the key to a healthy relationship is honesty and trust, but clearly people aren’t abiding by that. If you don’t want to open up about that sort of thing, just don’t mention it at all."
