Which sex is most annoying?Posted on: February 27, 2013 16:59:47
It's likely to be a contentious issue, with lots of for and against arguments for both, but who is the most annoying when it comes to dating - men or women?
If a recent poll is to be believed, it appears that there is something in the Y chromosome which makes males more irritating than the fairer sex.
According to NatCen Social Research, as many as 72 per cent of women who live with their partner claim their boyfriend gets on their nerves, compared to 59 per cent of men.
Whether you are sick of men forgetting important dates, leaving wet towels on the bed or are peeved that they don't understand your rollercoaster of emotions, there is no denying that women can be just as annoying too.
Although these results could suggest that the fairer sex are just more intolerant than blokes, it appears that overall, UK couples still believe they can rely on their partners despite their bugbears.
Reassuringly, 96 per cent of the 20,000 respondents in the study said they can share their worries with one another, and the findings also found that the older people get, the less irritated by their loved one they become.
Penny Young, chief executive of NatCen Social Research, said the findings suggest that how much couples can share their worries or rely on each other is key to whether or not a relationship will last.
A survey released by magazinesubscription.co.uk last month found that thoughtlessness and a partner who showed a lack of interest are particularly sore points for loved ones, Female First reports.
For women, immaturity and laziness were major turn-offs, while men had little patience for females who took too long to get ready or spent all of their spare time shopping and nagging about DIY chores.
Managing director of the website Malcolm Ord said issues arising between couples were often down to a communication breakdown.
"If they took notice of each other's interests, half of these issues would simply disappear," he added.
