According to Paula Hall, a relationship psychologist, asking a friend for online profile building advice will make things easier for you and give an honest outlook of what you're like from two different points of view.

She said: "Most people find it difficult to big-up themselves, but a close friend can not only be honest, but also ensure you're portrayed in the best possible light."

Furthermore, Ms Hall added that people have to be prepared for a few knockbacks before the right lover comes along, but the best way to start the weaning process is to just go for it.

Suzie Hayman, a Relate-trained counsellor, commented that keeping safe online is also important and that singles should ensure they are chatting to someone real and not a fraudster.
