Top tips: Cliches to avoidPosted on: March 28, 2013 14:09:24
One of the most common things that can put people off when searching for love online is making generalised statements that fail to make you stand out.
The idea of your profile is to let other people know more about you so that they can see if you're both likely to have anything in common and decide if there is going to be a connection.
So, if you insist on using bland, uninteresting and overused cliches, you're likely to be lowering your chance of finding romance.
When describing yourself it is always best to resist the temptation of making broad, sweeping statements such as you 'like to have fun'. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that as a sentence in itself, but it says very little about you.
Having fun is – hopefully – what most people enjoy, so why not give an example of what that means for you? What sort of interesting and fun things do you enjoy getting up to?
It is only a matter of time before you find a profile from someone who claims to 'live life to the fullest', but without an interesting example or anecdote to share, they're likely to simply blend into the background when searching for love online.
Similarly, generic descriptions when explaining the kind of person you're looking for can hinder your chances of bagging a new partner.
While you might be looking for someone who is 'interesting' or that 'special someone', each person's definition of what makes you those qualities can be very different, so try to be as specific as you can.
Lastly, when it comes to describing you or your ideal partner, you might want to think twice about using the term 'real man' or 'real woman' – it's unnecessary fluff that wouldn't be missed if deleted. Remember, every word counts when it comes to creating the right impression on an online dating website, so make them worth reading.
