Top ten dating commandments revealedPosted on: April 25, 2013 15:17:25
For UK singles who get anxious at the very thought of going on a first date, there are a number of things you can do to calm your nerves and ensure it goes without a hitch.
Susan Quilliam, a relationship expert and Hall XS have put together 'top ten commandments' to consider when it comes to dating.
Firstly, UK singles need to learn how to cope with any first-date jitters by taking a long, slow deep breath in, before letting it go completely, which should also shake off any nerves, she claims.
For females wearing heels or those looking to neutralise body wobbles, leaning slightly forward and distributing weight evenly between both feet should avoid any embarrassing stumbles as you make an entrance.
While it is important to look your best on a date, now is not the time to be examining each and every flaw you believe you might have. A quick glance to make sure your hair and outfit is all in place is more than enough before meeting your date.
Going back to a time when you made a really good impression will remind you of what is needed to wow your potential new suitor, the relationship expert advises.
Look out for something in your potential new partner that catches your eye as you strut your stuff over to them. It could be their smile, their figure or even the way they are dressed, Quilliam adds.
Untie your tongue
If nerves are getting the better of you when you start talking, do some subtle circles with your tongue - with your mouth kept tightly closed of course - to let go of any unwanted tension.
When you are concentrating on creating the right impression, it can be easy to forget to do the simple things. Remember, smiling triggers feel-good endorphins, so show off your biggest grin to put you and your date at ease.
To avoid any awkwardness, focus all of your attention on your date, Quilliam suggests, maintaining eye contact as much as possible and listening to everything they are saying.
While on a date you should avoid thinking about what could go wrong. Instead, imagine how you will feel at the end of the date if things have gone well, she concludes.
