Tips for second date successPosted on: January 29, 2013 15:12:15
After a successful first date the natural next step is to suggest a second one, but where should you go for it and importantly, how does it differ to a first date?
In many ways, a second date is very similar to the first. Despite not having the anticipation of meeting for the first time, impressions are still being made. So, it is important to still make the effort and to meet in a place where you can both talk and get to know more about one another.
However, it can be a good idea to try somewhere different for a second date. If you went for a coffee when you met for the first time, why not suggest going for a meal. If you just went for a walk, why not arrange to meet at a tourist attraction, museum or cinema this time round.
When it comes to second dates, there are no hard and fast rules on what you should and shouldn't do. Waiting for the man to make the first move is outdated, so if you felt like your initial meeting went well girls, don't be afraid to drop them a text.
If you are keen to see them again, leaving it open-ended, such as letting them know you had a good time and saying 'perhaps we could do this again?' leaves the ball very much in their court.
Remember, you are trying to work out whether you two are likely to be compatible enough to embark on a successful relationship, so try and move things on a bit - but don't rush it.
If there were any unanswered questions from your first meeting, now could be the time to ask them. It is probably still too soon to bring up more intimate details, but try to find out more about their passions, childhood and work life to see if and where you could fit into their lifestyle.
Be honest, but be diplomatic on a follow-up date. If things didn't go to plan don't string them along, although there is never a need to be blunt or rude when turning down a date.
