The perfect man 'does exist'

Posted on: December 24, 2012 13:09:06

The perfect man It may come as a surprise to single women who are yet to find their ideal match, but the 'perfect man' does exist.

This is according to a new survey from, which revealed there are actually several different versions of the perfect male suitor.

In a reflection of how women's tastes and desires change and develop as they get older, the research identified the characteristics of the perfect man for each stage of a lady's life.

For girls in the 18 to 24 age group, it is highly important that any man they go out with gets on well with their friends. In addition, women of this age are more likely to look for a shared taste in music, books and films.

Explaining these trends, clinical psychologist Dr Cecilia D'Felice said: "When we first start dating we carry over the desire to fit in and belong from our adolescence, and seek approval from our friends to validate our choices."

Women aged 25 to 34, on the other hand, are more likely to seek out career-driven partners. Many girls are focusing on their careers at this stage of their lives, so a man with ambition and good long-term prospects goes down well.

The survey also found that sexual compatibility is the most important to women in this age range.

"As we grow in confidence and invest in our own careers, partners who are doing the same become very attractive to us," explained Dr D'Felice.

Older men become more appealing to women in the 35 to 44 age group, the study discovered. found that 73 per cent would be prepared to date someone more than five years their senior.

For ladies aged between 45 and 54, security is the name of the game. According to the survey, 95 per cent of women in this age group said they were seeking a man with whom they felt secure. Interestingly, 54 per cent also said they would be willing to go out with someone who was more than five years younger.

Intelligence and common interests come to the forefront for ladies aged 55 and over. The research found that women at this stage of their lives look for men with a compatible personality and good sense of humour.
