Temperature 'causes most household rows'Posted on: November 1, 2013 15:22:29
When it gets to winter, most couples find they are slightly more irritable - as the cold weather and dark conditions do not make for a pleasant day, meaning we often take frustrations out on our partners when we get home.
But according to new research, there is one issue that stands out from the rest when it comes to the causes of most festive arguments - and that is the temperature of our homes.
Findings published by Anglian Home Improvements revealed as many as four in ten couples constantly bicker over the temperature of their home, as women regularly complain it is too cold, but their partners avoid switching on the heating due to skyrocketing fuel bills.
The majority of arguments were found to start in the living room, where over half of adults questioned admitted they will row with their other half over when to put the heating on for the first time this year.
Researchers found that the issue of whether to turn on the heating, how long for and how long it is likely to cost will be the cause of three arguments a week for the typical British couple.
The rows usually commence from late October, as women insist the radiators get switched up as early as possible.
Commenting on the findings, Melanie McDonald - head of marketing and communications at Anglian Home Improvements - said the unpredictable nature of British weather means such disputes are set to continue into next year.
She explained: "These results highlight that women are feeling the cold and men are worried about energy costs.
”This ties in with the feedback we get from our customers about their motivation for making energy saving home improvements, as we find that women often focus on comfort and being warm while men are more concerned about the energy bills."
