Romance rules: How to find a man online

Romance rules: How to find a man onlineThe digital age has transformed every element of our lives, from the way we work to the way we communicate with one another.

Despite living in an era where results can be achieved at a click of a button, finding love isn't always that simple.

Replacing single nights and speed dating events, online matchmaking websites and social media are now the preferred destination for thousands of Britons hoping to find love every year.

In the mid-1990s, two women worked together to create a dating 'bible' for women hoping to find their Mr Right. Since then, the dating scene has hugely changed and so Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider, the authors of the best-selling The Rules book, have released an updated copy, this time focusing on what female UK singles looking for a new partner need to do in this technology-led generation.

When creating an online dating profile, one of the first pieces of advice the women offer is to keep the amount of information shared to a minimum. Instead, focus should be kept on the important things that will help people understand more about you, such as what your profession is and any hobbies and interests you might have.

A man's attention is much more centred round your picture when first looking at your profile anyway, so a good photograph is vital.

Any males who 'wink' or 'poke' you online are the equivalent of a single who looks over at you but never approaches you when you are out and so are ones to avoid, the dating gurus advise. Men need to be confident enough to approach the fairer sex and should always make the first move, the American writers believe.

"The premise of The Rules is that, as unfeminist as it sounds, a woman should do absolutely nothing to start a relationship," an extract from the book in the Daily Mail reveals.
