People are 'turned off' by online PDA

Posted on: April 3, 2013 16:03:40

People are A new term has been coined to describe the latest form of public displays of affection (PDA).

Dubbed VDA - the V standing for virtual – it is said to be not only turning stomachs but also people away from social media, as loved-up duos insist on sharing their romance with the whole world.

Soppy individuals who take to the likes of Facebook and Twitter to share with peers how much they love their new partner has been found to annoy as many as one in four Brits in a new study.

The research, which was carried out by Match.com, also found that more couples than ever in the UK are turning to the internet to detail their personal life, with almost half admitting to changing their Facebook status to 'in a relationship'.

Some of the biggest turn-offs were found to be cringe-worthy explicit posts between lovebirds, with as many as three-quarters of women stating they disliked reading every intimate detail about friends.

One in three people also said they would prefer not to see pet names being used on social media.

Kate Taylor, a relationship expert for the website, claimed that 'VDAs' are now the biggest faux pas when it came to dating, the MailOnline reports.

"There's nothing wrong with letting your close friends know you're happy, but it's important to keep in mind who you're sharing it with," she said. "What might seem a sweet comment in the eyes of you and your friends could come across as sounding unintentionally smug in the eyes of an acquaintance."

Instead of sharing personal messages with the whole world, limiting them to private and secure sites instead will mean they will be more special, moving and romantic.

"Remember, VDAs invite a similar reception to PDAs, while you might think nothing of a quick smooch on public transport, but it can make observers feel uncomfortable," she added.
