Passing the TV remote 'is man's idea of romance'

Posted on: August 23, 2013 11:01:23

Passing the TV remote Very often, women who are in a relationship dream of being whisked away for a romantic weekend with their partner, or of a candlelit dinner for two or an extravagant proposal in front of a big crowd.

However, the reality is, that some females are rarely even given a bunch of flowers from the local garage - as their boyfriends or husbands prefer a more low-key approach to sweeping their partner of her feet.

But what is it that guys would like their other half to do? Unsurprisingly, new research has revealed that blokes have a much more simple idea of what qualifies as romantic.

According to the modern man, the height of relationship bliss is giving their partner control of the TV remote. Research carried out by Moonpig revealed guys believe that offering to clean the house and putting the bins out are also romantic gestures.

On top of this, seven per cent believe that leaving the toilet seat down for their other half is enough to put them in the good books for a while.

Luckily, it seems not all men are clueless when it comes to treating their girlfriend like a princess, with 37 per cent claiming that surprising their partner with a bunch of flowers was their idea of romance.

In addition, 31 per cent opted for offering to cook the dinner, which is likely to ensure women feel special and relaxed at the end of a hard day at work.

Iain Martin, managing director of Moonpig, said: "A nice bunch of flowers is usually what women want, but perhaps us men are a bit guilty of trying to think outside the box too much and I guess that's why some think that the remote is the key to being romantic."

And if you're looking to surprise your female friend with some flowers this weekend, the most popular choices among respondents were roses and lilies - so bare that in mind when heading to the florist.
