One in six couples 'sleep in separate beds'Posted on: July 16, 2013 12:31:30
Most people who are romantically involved have been kept awake at night thanks to their partner's snoring, midnight sleep talking or fidgeting at one time or another, but is this really enough to force you out of your own bed?
According to new research, thousands of couples are putting their relationship at risk by choosing to sleep in separate beds in a bid to escape their other half's annoying bedtime habits.
Analysts from Ergoflex, which carried out the study, found one in six pairs regularly - if not always - go to sleep in separate rooms, even though they admit doing so has had a negative impact on their bond.
Researchers, who questioned 2,010 adults, found going to bed away from their partner was down to different bedtime habits, with 86 per cent claiming they get a better night's rest when separate from other half.
However, a growing number of couples are seemingly choose to get their head down in a completely different room of the home. Reasons cited for this included one individual wanting to watch TV or read, one party snoring or the simple need to have some alone time.
Carried out to examine the sleeping patterns of couples across the UK, thanks to the dramatic increase in single mattress sales, the research found the majority of couples had acknowledged the negative impact their sleeping habits were having on their relationship.
Commenting on the findings, an Ergoflex spokesman said the findings show just how important suitable rest is for people across the country.
The official added: "Whatever the reason for sleeping apart, it seems that many simply see it as the easiest way to get a sound night's sleep, which certainly makes sense in our book.
"Sleeping apart can help you get the quality rest you need, no doubt putting you in a better mood with your partner during the day."
