Most couples 'don't have sex on wedding night'Posted on: October 18, 2013 14:02:57
They say getting married spells the end of spontaneous sex with your partner, but many singles still dream of a night of passion with their new husband or wife on their wedding day.
However, the dry spell may actually start sooner than they think, with most couples not actually getting down and dirty between the sheets on their first evening of being Mr and Mrs.
A study carried out by Voucher Codes Pro revealed the majority of pairs fail to consummate their marriage on their wedding night - more often than not because the groom is too drunk to function downstairs.
Researchers, who questioned 2,128 newlyweds, found that the bride falling asleep and arguments during the reception were also passion killers on that all-important first night.
In fact, this problem is not uncommon, as 52 per cent of respondents admitted to not making love on their wedding night. Some 17 per cent even waited for more than three days after the ceremony.
Rather unromantically, 11 per cent said they did not get up-close-and-personal because they had to look after their children, while nine per cent admitted they had an argument before the wedding reception ended.
Another nine per cent said they spent their wedding night travelling to their honeymoon destination, while seven per cent stayed up partying all night with guests.
Commenting on the figures, George Charles - marketing director of Voucher Codes Pro - said the emphasis of wedding night sex for newlyweds is "no longer a huge factor".
He explained: "It may be that the stress and pressure of organising a wedding takes the main priority, especially considering such a large proportion of couples have been living together for years."
Would you be upset if you did not get the chance to consummate your marriage after the stress of organising your wedding day? Perhaps the study's findings will make you feel better if you do not.
