Men 'use good deeds to attract women'Posted on: July 11, 2013 13:29:35
While the majority of blokes would argue that they regularly carry out a good dead in order to boost their sense of confidence and make themselves feel positive, new research has claimed this may not be the case.
Although women love nothing more than watching their new partner helping other people out and performing seemingly selfless acts, a study has claimed males could be a little more selfish than they would like their female counterparts to know.
New research from the British Journal of Psychology, which was published in the Daily Mail, revealed most men only perform good deeds when they are attempting to impress a woman they fancy.
Scientists claimed that this "peacocking" - named after the manner in which male birds display their colourful tail to impress females - was more common when guys felt they were being watched by a member of the opposite sex.
As part of the study, both men and women were asked to play a "public good" game on a computer while working in a group.
They were given £3 each to begin with and were given the choice of putting the money into a collective account that would be doubled at the end of the research and distributed between six random participants, or keep the money in a private account.
Those taking part in the study were watched by either a male or female, or no one, as the research took place.
Conclusions revealed guys donated their money to the group account far more when being observed by a lady, while women's donations remained the same in all three conditions.
In addition, scientists found that the actions of the men also correlated positively with their attractiveness rating of the female watching the study.
The findings suggest that known differences between the sexes are because males are trying to compete with each other to impress potential mates.
