Men say 'I love you' firstPosted on: March 7, 2013 12:04:22
Before being able to move your romance a step further and make the relationship truly official, you both need to say one of the most powerful statements in the world, 'I love you'.
They might only be three little words, but to hear them said out loud might take longer than you had hoped.
A recent study found that it took men on average 88 days to pluck up the courage to let their new partner know how they feel.
However, surprisingly, the research found that it takes women even longer to declare their love, waiting around four and a half months - or 134 days - to tell their guy.
The findings in the eHarmony survey revealed that this notion of men being 'commitmentphobes' is not true, and in fact, women are much more resistant to move the relationship forward in comparison.
As many as 39 per cent of men declared their love within the first month of dating, whereas only 23 per cent of females admitted to saying the statement within the initial four weeks.
Jenni Trent Hughes, a relationship advice expert at the dating agency, said the traditional perceptions of men are now outdated, the MailOnline reported.
"After centuries of women questioning the reluctance of men to commit or be romantic, it seems that we may have just been wrong all along. Boys are softies and can be way mushier than girls," she claimed.
Not only that, but blokes are more likely to recall the day they said 'I love you' for the first time and even remember the first time they held hands with their partner.
The study also found that over half of both men and women confessed to having sex within the first three months of a relationship.
Other surprising findings revealed that the most reserved age category is the 18 to 24-year-olds, who were found to be the slowest of all the respondents to hold hands and have a smooch for the first time.
