Men discuss women's fashion failuresPosted on: October 7, 2013 11:16:39
The need to dress impeccably during the early stages of a new relationship is something that affects members of both sexes for a temporary period, but there comes a time in any romance where less emphasis is placed on appearance.
Although women may think that their boyfriend does not mind if she occasionally adopts a more laidback approach to fashion at the weekend - think onesies or oversized sweatpants - it seems that the truth is in fact quite the opposite.
According to a new study from Shopaholic Showdown, guys actually do notice what their partner is wearing - and onesies, leopard print and oversized sunglasses have been named the top three faux pas from a male viewpoint.
Researchers, who questioned 2,000 men and women, found guys are certainly not fans of the overstyled look, deeming cheap hair extensions, heavily-applied makeup and dip-dyed tresses among the worst styles for ladies.
However, although the study's male participants have proved they are more fashion conscious than they would have women believe, it is actually females who are more likely to judge a member of the opposite sex by his outfit choice.
In fact, women are less likely to accept a date with a stranger in a bar if he is badly dressed, with only 47 per cent admitting they would go out with someone who had bad style sense.
Men are more likely to let fashion get in the way of romance, probably because ladies tend to try to change the way a partner dresses by shopping for them and gradually changing their wardrobe over time.
What's more, nearly 50 per cent of women have attempted to "educate" their boyfriend in the fashion stakes by advising him on his looks.
Commenting on the research findings, Brix Smith-Start, spokeswoman and judge for TLC show Shopaholic Showdown, said: "No, nos would be three quarter-length trousers on men, it’s a style that will never work.
”Equally tracksuits with brand names scrawled across them are a heinous crime against fashion."
