Men 'are more romantic than women'

Posted on: April 23, 2013 14:02:20

Men Male UK singles often get a hard time for their laid-back approach when it comes to love.

While gender stereotypes might suggest they are more likely to forget anniversaries and Valentine's Day, not to mention show little or no interest in slushy romantic gestures, research has suggested that this is anything but true.

In fact, a global survey speaking to 100,000 people revealed that in many instances, men are more likely to show their soppy side when dating than their female counterparts.

Research published in new book The Normal Bar, found that as many as 48 per cent of men claim to have fallen in love at first sight, a significantly higher percentage than women who said they have.

Not only that, but 66 per cent of male and female respondents said they believe their partner is their soulmate, indicating that perhaps both sexes are reading from the same page when it comes to love after all.

The findings, which aimed to dispel the myths surrounding sexuality and relationships in the 21st century, were carried out by entrepreneur Chrisanna Northrup and two social science professors from US universities.

Using data from the responses by those interviewed, the survey shed light on a number of startling statistics.

It not only revealed that just 74 per cent of people are happy in their relationship, but having sex without an emotional tie outside a relationship is not deemed as an affair by many.

The Normal Bar book also looks at the secrets behind what makes a relationship a success, with communication emerging as the biggest factor.

Indeed, in unhappy relationships, a lack of communication was cited as the number one reason for it breaking down.

Arranging regular date nights, using pet names, holding hands, kissing passionately and saying 'I love you' frequently were some of the most popular secrets behind a happy partnership, according to the study.
