Men are 'more romantic than women'

Posted on: February 5, 2013 15:50:24

Men are UK singles looking for love might be surprised to hear that men in fact crave more romance in their lives than members of the opposite sex.

According to a survey carried out by clinical psychologist Dr Howard Markman, only 29 per cent of women, compared to as many as 44 per cent of men, said they would like their partner to be more romantic.

"Men are really more romantic in my opinion than women," Dr Markman said. "But, we don't really show that often enough. We don't express our love in ways that are meaningful."

As well as pining for a more amorous partnership, a greater percentage of guys were found to have fallen in love at first sight in the survey.

"Love at first sight is very common. Men do it more than women because I think we're just more romantic and we like that idea," the psychologist added.

The study, which is due to released today (February 5th), also looked at other elements of a relationship, 9news reports.

Among the happiest couples in the research, over a quarter of those respondents said they were keeping secrets from their loved one, while 40 per cent claimed they had sex up to four times a week.

These latest findings come after another study earlier in the month suggested that even men who retain more traditional, romantic values such as opening doors for women and insisting on paying on a date are often shunned by the fairer sex.

As many as 92 per cent of women in the socked.co.uk poll claimed they wouldn't take a seat that was offered to them by a man, while most would turn down a helping hand with their bags, as they were suspicious of kind-hearted gestures by gents.

So, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, why not further dispel the myth that men don't have a soft side and prove once and for all that chivalry certainly isn't dead.
