Men aged over 46 'do not care about their looks'

Posted on: September 19, 2013 15:15:18

Men aged over 46 Let's face it, the need to look good at all times as a single in the 21st century can get a little bit tiring - as you are constantly under pressure to ooze sex appeal in a bid to attract a new partner.

Whether at the gym, walking the dog, at work or on a night out, there is continued demand to make sure your hair is preened, your complexion is clear and your physique looks desirable.

But how long is this pressure likely to last? Are older singles meant to spend hours every day getting ready just in case they bump into Mr or Ms Right? According to new research, apparently not.

Men apparently give up caring about how they look at the age of just 46, while members of the fairer sex keep up their appearances for more than a decade longer, the study revealed.

Researchers, who questioned 2,000 adults, found that ladies focus hard on their appearance and general fitness until they are at least 59 before beginning to relax their standards.

It was revealed that general declining health, a lack of physical fitness and not being bothered about the latest trends - or what may be deemed "cool" at that time - are among the biggest factors for males giving up.

The study by bendenen health also found that women are nearly twice as likely to lack confidence in their image than their male counterparts, with more than a third unable to admit they were at least content with their appearance.

Paul Keenan from benenden health said: "Our survey suggests that maintaining our physical wellbeing into our later years simply becomes a lesser priority - influenced by wanting to relax in comfort and not have to keep up with trends.

”And men appear to ‘give up’ far sooner than women. We regularly read in the news about how we are all living longer - thanks to improvements in medical science."
