Loves means not worrying about your weightPosted on: December 6, 2013 17:25:01
Being single can be irritating for a number of reasons but a new study has shown that women in love are less likely to worry about their weight.
According to a new study, even those who were overweight said they were satisfied with the way they were when in a relationship.
A research team suggested that a woman's feeling towards her weight and body has more to do with how happy she is, rather than how much she weighs. The researchers, who surveyed 250 women between 20 and 45-years-old, asked them a number of questions about their relationships including how satisfied they were emotionally, intellectually and sexually.
Around two-thirds of the women surveyed were living with their boyfriend, while the rest were married. The researchers also asked them about how much they had in common with their other half, as well as how satisfied they were with their weight and what their ideal weight would be.
It found that the women who were happiest with their weight, were happier in their relationship generally, even if they didn't think it was ideal. The research team also revealed that these women also had higher self-esteem and were less self-conscious about their body.
Speaking at a British Psychological Society conference heard, researcher Sabina Vatter, of Tallinn University in Estonia, said: "These findings suggest that our satisfaction with body size, shape and weight has more to do with how happy we are in important areas of our lives, like our romantic relationships, than it does with what the bathroom scales say."
The study also found that there was no difference between those who were married and those who were just living with a boyfriend.
Miss Vatter, who conducted the research for her masters degree, said that it could be that women who are happy in a relationship don't pay as much attention to their weight. On the other hand, those who are unhappy with their partner may feel pressure from their partner to lose weight or change how they look.
