How to find love on the Underground

Posted on: December 18, 2012 16:35:08

How to find love on the UndergroundPublic transport is often regarded as the bane of people's lives, but it can in fact be a place to find love.

UK singles living in London could be only metres away from a potential new partner during their journey to work, but many are just not plucking up the courage to do anything about it.

Thousands of singletons across the capital have the potential to be pairing up and finding romance on their daily commute, if only they dared to make eye contact or had the guts to speak to someone during their journey.

While previous statistics suggesting that as many as one in 100 people have married someone they met on the Underground in London is unlikely, there is no reason why you won't be able to find a match in Marylebone, a dream date on the DLR or your perfect partner at Piccadilly.

Almost half of people asked in a recent study by mxData, the company which created the Tube Map app, said they have spotted someone who takes their fancy on the Underground at least once a week, with some even admitting to finding a good looking member of the opposite sex every day.

For Londoners hoping to stumble across their soulmate on the platform, even what station you go to can determine the kind of love you will find.

The Piccadilly line is meant to be the place to go if you are looking for something more casual. With most travellers heading to or from the airport, this station is unlikely to offer you anything more than a fling. For something more serious, the Circle line is the place to head to.

Don't bother getting on the Metropolitan route if you are looking to settle down, love-underground.co.uk recommends. This is where most people who are afraid of commitment are likely to be.

Singletons looking for someone good looking are best placed on the Central line, but the Northern line stations are where to go for young professionals, the website suggests.

Oysters are after all meant to be aphrodisiacs, so maybe it is worth looking at your London travel card in another light, as it could very well be your ticket to romance…
