How texting could ruin your chances of finding love

Posted on: January 15, 2013 14:58:18

How texting could ruin your chances of finding loveUK singles could be damaging their chances of finding a new partner with their texting habits, it has been suggested.

With so many experts and studies offering various pieces of advice on how to contact potential dates, understanding the do's and don'ts of getting in touch with someone you are interested in can be a digital minefield.

However, getting the basics of texting etiquette wrong can in fact be damaging to your love life, Cupid.com claims.

Not replying at all to text messages or bombarding members of the opposite sex with long-winded responses are some of the biggest turn-offs for both men and women, the research showed.

Speaking to 500 people, the website found that 39 per cent of men and 33 per cent of women claimed they aren't impressed by people who take ages to reply to their messages.

The majority of respondents said they would be willing to wait a day before getting in touch with someone after a date.

Texting can be a great way to get to know each other better, although most men agreed that speaking over the phone is a better alternative as the relationship becomes more serious.

Singletons also admitted to sexting on their mobile phones, with as many as 79 per cent of men and 70 per cent of women doing so.

Sean Wood, communications director at the company, said: "[Texting] can be a great way of communicating when you are too shy to say it and a great way to break the ice after a date. But there is a time and a place for it, sometimes nothing can replace a face-to-face conversation."

A new book offering singletons advice on what to do when looking for love suggested women should never make the first move.

In the latest edition of The Rules, it claimed females over the age of 30 should wait 12 hours before responding, while those over 40 should leave it as long as 24 hours before making a move.
