How can you tell if your date likes you?Posted on: January 21, 2013 14:38:33
Trying to suss out what a person is thinking on a first date is crucial when attempting to gauge whether or not a second meeting is likely to be on the cards.
The well-known saying might be 'actions speak louder than words', but just how do you know if there is going be a blossoming romance in the pipeline if the date isn't giving much away?
According to recent research, UK singles should focus on an individual's body language when determining what a person is thinking.
In a report published in the journal Science by Princeton University, findings showed that people often wrongly guess what someone's reaction is by solely relying on facial expressions.
Instead, the study suggested that focus should be on overall body language, as it is a much better way of working out a person's mood.
So, with that in mind, look out for some of the telltale signs that a person is - or isn't - into you when out on a date.
After introducing yourself, make a note of the way in which the person sits down, particularly if you are sat opposite one another.
Dates who are interested in what you have to say and are keen to get closer to you are more likely to move forward in their seat and lean towards you for a more intimate conversation.
If your date is leaning back in their chair more casually, but keeping good eye contact and engaging in conversation, it means they are comfortable in your company and feel at ease.
Ones to be wary of are the dates who sit so laid back they look disengaged, or people who appear distracted with wandering eyes across the room.
Once you are more settled in your date, single men might want to look out to see whether their date plays with their hair or a piece of jewellery when talking, as this can be a sign they find their date attractive.
Blushing, giggling and lots of smiling are also great sub-conscious signs they are enjoying their time with you.
If men are genuinely attracted to a person, they are likely to be keen to find out more about them, particularly any common interests. So, if he asks lots of open-ended questions and is increasingly pleased to find you have things in common, you could be on to a winner.
