Get active on first dates to avoid awkward moments

According to Chrissy Richman, director of thelifechangepeople.com, a firm that specialises in 'change holidays', combining luxury tailor-made breaks in Thailand with a unique therapeutic programme, one of the most common mistakes singles make when they first begin talking to someone is to ask too many questions.

"Interviewing someone - either by letter or the first time you meet. [Asking questions about] how much they earn, whether they believe in marriage or want children are often discussed very early," the expert said.

She added that a good way to get away from "too much talking" is to go on active dates together such as horse riding or running.

Ms Richman explained that such dates can be fun and act as an ice-breaker giving daters something new to talk about.
