Funny people are 'more attractive'

Posted on: April 30, 2013 16:42:27

Funny people are Male UK singles might want to ditch the roses in favour of a joke book, as a new study suggests that a sense of humour is the key to wooing members of the opposite sex.

According to Psychologist magazine, witty people are seen as "particularly attractive for a short-term fling".

The findings were collated by researchers Mary Cowan and Anthony Little from the University of Stirling, which filmed 40 psychology students - both male and female - who were asked to explain which two items they would take to a desert island and why.

It found that 19 of the candidates used humour in their responses, the MailOnline reports. Students were then played recordings of the answers and were asked to rate the candidates on their funniness and attractiveness.

Each actor was rated on whether they would be deemed most suitable for a short-term relationship - such as dates or a one-night stand - or a long-term relationship.

The findings proved people can't resist someone who can put a smile on their face, with most respondents picking people with a good sense of humour as someone they would more likely embark on a short-term relationship with.

"A key result is that attractive actors were judged to be funnier," the magazine said, also claiming the result proved that "men who were considered funnier also tended to be considered more attractive for both short and long-term relationships, but especially short term."

It isn't the first time that research has suggested that it is possible to laugh a member of the opposite sex into bed.

Earlier in the month, a Sky Living survey suggested that making someone laugh is the preferred way of sharing their feelings for many Brits.

In addition to that, Cupid, a dating website's findings recently revealed that as many as 78 per cent of singletons claim they find a sense of humour an aphrodisiac.
