Dating and love later in life

Posted on: February 6, 2013 16:59:25

Dating and love later in lifeAs the popular song quite rightly says, 'everybody needs somebody to love', and that doesn't change just because you're getting older.

Many mature singles who are looking for a new partner still hope to feel special and loved, and to be with someone they can share the rest of their life with when embarking on a relationship.

However, for some who are setting foot onto the dating scene again after many years in a marriage or in a long-term relationship, some priorities are likely to have changed.

A recent survey into the dating habits of senior singles found that the majority of men and women aren't looking to tie the knot a second time round, but do still want a serious relationship later in life.

Many women in particular claimed they don't want to marry again because they were concerned about hurting the feelings of their children.

These findings support previous studies which suggested that many older singletons are on the lookout for love, but are apprehensive about how to go about it or are concerned how it would be perceived.

Donna Dawson, a relationship expert who has worked with Age UK in the past, said people need to remember that they are the same person they always were, and have the same needs and wants in life.

"It's important we embrace opportunities such as taking up new hobbies or meeting others, in order to keep us stimulated and healthy, and to maintain our emotional wellbeing," she said.

The new survey, carried out by, also highlighted the differences between genders when it came to the over-55s and their views on dating.

Over half of men who did want to remarry were hopeful they would fall in love again, compared to only 25 per cent of women.

In addition, a higher percentage of men admitted to being more sexually active now than when they were married.

Online dating is a great place to start that search for a new partner or companion when you feel ready, with lots of like-minded people who are also hoping to meet someone for friendship or more.

You're never too old to kindle a new romance, so start the search for love online now!ADNFCR-2828-ID-801536139-ADNFCR
