Could your face shape affect your love life?

Posted on: June 26, 2013 12:57:23

Could your face shape affect your love life? When unlucky-in-love individuals break up with their romantic partner, they often embark upon some soul searching in a bid to find out the reasons why they have been unable to hold down a long-term relationship.

However long you try to examine every detail regarding your romantic history, it is unlikely you would blame the shape of your face. But a group of researchers have claimed this could be a deciding factor in people's future with a committed partner.

According to a pair of scientists, males are subconsciously driven towards less attractive females for a long-term relationship because they are less likely to be unfaithful, while their prettier counterparts are classed as a bit of fun.

Study authors Anthony Little from the University of Stirling and Benedict Jones from the University of Glasgow said blokes who are looking for a fling tend to go for ladies with delicate facial features.

On the other hand, those who are after something a little bit more serious are drawn to females with masculine face shapes.

Reported by CTV News, the research could come as quite the surprise to old romantics who are on the lookout for a new partner.

The scientists said: "When a man has secured a mate, the potential cost of being discovered may increase his choosiness regarding short-term partners relative to unpartnered men, who can better increase their short-term mating success by relaxing their standards."

As part of the study, researchers showed several hundred heterosexual male participants a selection of faces that were made up of composite parts and were asked which they would choose for a short relationship and which for a longer one.

Previous research has pointed to similar findings, which suggest prettier ladies are more likely to cheat on their boyfriends, particularly if their romantic partner is not the best looking.
