Could you think yourself to climax?Posted on: October 23, 2013 15:44:59
The female orgasm is a concept that has been shrouded with mystery for many years, with members of both sexes still struggling to discover how exactly to achieve this coveted sensation.
But how would you feel if you discovered you could reach climax by using some simple breathing techniques? Well, according to one sex coach, you can do exactly that.
Barbara Carrellas from New York said women could benefit from attending her sessions, as it teaches them to turn themselves on in a "molecular sense" by lying on the floor, performing some breathing exercises and clenching their muscles.
An investigation into whether or not the classes could work was carried out by Salon.com, when writer Tracy Clark-Flory went along to the classes.
During the lessons, Ms Carellas asked all attendees to lie fully-clothed on the floor with their limbs splayed. Then, by following instructions, the women were asked to monitor the length and intensity of their breaths.
By rocking their hips back and forth, while letting out "power sounds", Ms Carellas said ladies can help the process along. In addition, kegel exercises to contract the perineal muscles can also be beneficial.
The writer said she reached orgasm by taking fuller and faster breaths, then holding her breath while clenching and pushing her body into the ground.
Ms Clark-Flory said she had a "deeply in-body experience" that saw her feeling numb with tingly fingers and a dry mouth. The whole thing left her unable to move from one spot on the floor for ten minutes afterwards.
Although there has been no concrete evidence to support the effectiveness of the classes, some studies have identified a link between breath and sexual arousal.
A 2007 article in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that hyperventilation can lead to an altered consciousness than can relate to a "transient hypofrontality".
Ms Carrellas said: "[I wish people would] stop calling orgasm just something that happens when a sex organ is directly stimulated."
