Clothes shopping 'a pet peeve for men'

Posted on: July 8, 2013 13:15:20

Clothes shopping While glamorous girls love nothing more than hitting the high street in search of a bargain, it seems their other halves dread the thought of traipsing around countless shops - even if they are on the lookout for a sexy new outfit.

According to new research carried out by cashback website Quidco, the average bloke gets bored just 26 minutes into a day at the shops, with many even tempted to leave their partner and return home alone.

Researchers, who questioned 2,000 Britons, found the uncomfortable temperatures in many stores and girlfriends who return back to the same shop more than once in a single trip were the biggest bugbear for impatient men.

In fact, some guys find the thought of shopping so terrifying that 45 per cent admitted they will avoid it at all costs.

Boyfriends cited a wife or girlfriend who takes too long to make a decision, or find an item they want, as among the reasons men dislike hitting the shops.

And unhappy men said being hungry or thirsty, busy shops and missing a sports game they wanted to watch are the main factors that could tip them over the edge.

Rather cheekily, some men admitted they admire other women who are out browsing for a new outfit while their own partner was in the changing rooms in a bid to pass the time, which could contribute to the tension between boyfriends and girlfriends.

Almost half of respondents said they ended up arguing with their other half because of their bad mood in the shopping centre.

Perhaps surprisingly, shopping was found to be quite the stressful experience for girls too, with three-quarters admitting they start to feel stressed less than two hours into their trip.

Commenting on the findings, Andy Oldham from Quidco said: "If men buy whatever they were looking for in one of the first shops they went into, it's going to get pretty tiresome going from shop-to-shop with their other half - especially if they are having to follow them into the same store several times."
