Brits 'feel friskier in summer'

Posted on: April 25, 2013 14:28:02

Brits With summer not too far away, it seems that more than just temperatures will be rising over the coming months.

According to a recent study, Brits are more likely to get hot under the collar - and the sheets - during the warmer season, with summer the most popular time of year to make love.

Speaking to more than 2,000 people, the survey revealed that August is the preferred month to get intimate, with respondents feeling more amorous when the weather is brighter.

In fact, as many as 18 per cent of the votes were awarded to August, compared to just two per cent in February, despite Valentine's Day falling during that period.

May was revealed as the second most desirable month, surprisingly followed by December.

However, as a whole, autumn and winter months are considered the least sexy time of year, with November, January, March and October all ranking low in the survey.

Researchers suggested it was down to melatonin levels, which are higher during the cooler times of year, which can result in a reduced sex drive, as well as lethargy and even depression.

In fact, tests have shown that men have as much as 33 per cent more testosterone flowing through their bodies in June than in January.

A spokesman for sex toy website Lovehoney, which conducted the survey, said good weather, in particular the sun, has the ability to cheer people up.

"We have just had the bleakest winter in history, but now the sun is out and we are all feeling frisky," he said. "The sun shining changes everyone's moods and, of course, means we are wearing far fewer clothes. It's much easier to flirt and have fun when the weather is warm - and that means are lot more of us are getting it on."

These latest findings come after a study in France found that singletons are more likely to flirt when the sun is out.

Researchers said that females were more likely to give their phone number when approached by a good-looking male in good weather compared to on an overcast day.
