A new look 'could improve your dating prospects'

Posted on: June 27, 2013 16:00:32

A new look Changing your appearance can have a big effect on your confidence levels, and it could even improve your dating prospects by giving you a fresh outlook on life.

It turns out one of the most common ways for a woman to mix up her style is by doing something different with her hair.

According to research carried out by hair stylists Toni&Guy, the average woman will change her hairstyle 150 times during her lifetime. In fact, the survey discovered that each year between the ages of 15 and 65, the typical female will have her hair cut in two different styles and try at least one different colour.

All in all, most women will try around 100 different hair colours over the years, whether that be a sexy blonde, sultry brunette or sassy red.

There are many different reasons that the women gave for experimenting with their lovely locks.

The top reasons in the survey included a woman being bored with her current appearance (64 per cent), seeing a celebrity style that she liked (12 per cent), going through a life change like a wedding (15 per cent) or having a baby (13 per cent).

A milestone birthday, graduation or the end of a relationship were also popular reasons, while some ladies simply liked the attention that a hairstyle change would bring them. Surely, finding love online and going on a first date is also a good reason to try something new with your barnet!

Commenting on the research, global creative director at Toni&Guy, Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck said: "It's great to see that most women will experiment with their hair during their life, rather than stick with the same tried and tested look.

"A new hairstyle or colour can be a great way to brighten up your appearance or even celebrate a bit life change or milestone event."

Around one in twenty women even admitted to never going more than a month with the same hairstyle, and around 35 per cent said they change their colour at least once every six months.

On the other end of the spectrum, however, it turns out that about 15 per cent of women like to keep their locks a bit more on the side of consistency, keeping the same look for five years. Another 14 per cent reported that it had been more than 10 years since they'd last changed hairstyles.ADNFCR-2828-ID-801604429-ADNFCR
